THE ISSUES

THE ISSUES

We are conducting a poll into six key issues facing Cayman. A summary report of findings will be released publicly at the end of the campaign.

The survey is anonymous, and at the end you can register your email to enter to win one of 10 limited edition t-shirts (email addresses and survey data are NOT linked).

GAY MARRIAGE

GAY MARRIAGE

Gay marriage is rapidly being legalised around the developed world. The issue is currently being tested in the courts of Cayman, and we want to know where the balance of public opinion is on the question of whether it should be legal in Cayman or not.

IGUANA CULLING

IGUANA CULLING

In late 2018, the Cayman Islands government embarked on an extensive culling program to bring the population of green iguanas under control. We want to know if you think this is a necessary action to prevent the population running out of control, or if you think government should let nature run its course.

MARIJUANA

MARIJUANA

Legalising marijuana has been a hot topic across much of the world, and Cayman is no exception. Limited usage of CBD oil is allowed for medical purposes since 2016, but we want to find out whether public opinion is in favour of legalising it for recreational use or keeping it illegal.

NATIONAL HEALTHCARE

NATIONAL HEALTHCARE

The Cayman Islands have a private healthcare system (with the exception of the limited CINICO service available to civil servants). We want to know if you are happy with the current system, or if the government should enact a nationalised healthcare system paid for by national taxation, replacing the current private system.

PLASTIC FREE

PLASTIC FREE

Both internationally and here in Cayman, there is growing public pressure to stop the use of single-use plastics in society (such as straws, cups and bags). We want to know if you think that the government should enforce a ban on single-use plastic, or if individuals and businesses should be free to choose how to deal with it.

PRIVATE DEVELOPMENT

PRIVATE DEVELOPMENT

Cayman has seen tremendous amounts of development, with little in the way of restrictions on the amount or type of private development that can be built each year. We want to know if you think people should be able to choose what they want to do with their private land freely, or if the government should impose stricter controls in the interests of the environment.
